We leave for our Christmas "guilt trip" next week. In a fit of pique, or rather, a lengthy negotiation with CPT Dick about child duty this weekend so I can finish up some work, I somehow promised that if I got my work done I would not take my laptop with me to the states.
That I would be laptop-independent for 9 whole days.
I can't explain my reasoning. I was tired and cranky and really thought I was pulling one over on him. I was stupid.
Someone help me get out of this one.

hey - does that mean we wouldn't hear from you for "9 whole days"?!
please tell the Capt that we will miss you. . . . and make a plea on that basis. Tell 'im I pulled rank on 'im.
I wish you luck. We took a 3 day trip and I left mine behind and although I managed, I felt like I was constantly searching for something I had left at home. I knew what it was, but there was this nagging feeling that pulled at me and left me edgy and anxious the whole time. I later told him that in "my world" where I am connected to him for years from my laptop and at a time where I work completely independent of people around me via the "net" to just leave it behind, was a mistake. Even if I have no intention of working, to just not take it with me, would not be something I would ever consider doing again, but I would make an agreement with him to have it be the last priority. To make sure that I do not let it suck me in while we are away.
There were times he and the kids did things without me where I could have productively done some work where I was left watching "TV" and I wanted to scream....so when we head to the inlaws when we move in the spring, I will head to the closest hotspot to work, I refuse to be left to my defenses while he is out fishing with my FIL. He actually understood this so well when I explained it to him that he bought me a new laptop for Christmas.....I think that if you just explain to him that after thinking about it, you know that it is just not feasable and that you could make the compromise with him that if you were to take it with you, you would only use it when everyone else is gone to bed and you need to work. I never go to bed when everyone else does, so....this works for us.....I hope I helped some, if not, good luck :D.....and have a good trip with or without the laptop.....
You brave woman! In any case, have a safe trip!
I guess you did keep this promise, eh? Or at least you're laying low. . . . Just stopped to say happy new year to you, and to let you know that I was thinking of you and wishing you the best! Hope to be reading more of you soon.
