He has conceded defeat.

We are spending the holidays halfsies. But it was a fight to get him to agree and I'm still not sure if he did because he recognized I was right or he just wanted me to shut up.

But little victories...

Do you want to go on in the language framework of victory and defeat? Sounds like a war.

Yeah. . . I know they're just words. Hah: "just words".

Are there other words that would better shape the exchange - and the relationship? You did say you didn't want to be one of his soldiers. . . .

To be honest, MW, I have no idea what eventually swayed him. Part of me wishes I did know -- you know, for use in future entanglements. But most of me is just happy he saw reason even if it was only to shut me up.
